The ‘Haft-seen’ table

This table contain 7 items which symbolise health, beauty, and wealth in the new year.

The month of March can only mean one thing - the Persian New Year, known as ‘Nowruz!

This ancient Persian celebration coincides with the Spring equinox, the exact time of year when the Winter season ends and Spring arrives, bringing with it the warm light that overcomes the cold darkness.

But this isn’t a one-day event; Nowruz is a multi-faceted celebration spanning most of March, and Inspired was there every step of the way to ensure that all of our community members were able to celebrate this incredible time of year!

Take a look at these pictures!

Chaharshanbe Soori - Fire Festival

It begins on the last Tuesday night of the year, with a ritual known as Chahar shanbe soori, ’ when friends and family gather in parks and fields and light fireworks and small bonfires as a symbol of cleansing one’s soul as they enter the new year.

Nowruz - Welcoming the New Year

The day and time of the start of Nowruz is measured precisely according to the Solar calendar - this year, it was held on:

Thursday, 20th March at 9:01 AM.

Families gather around their ‘haft-seen’ tables (in their finest outfits), eagerly awaiting the countdown to the new year!

Throughout the next 13 days of the Nowruz period, people visit the homes of their family and friends, starting with their family members, their elders, and those who may have lost loved ones in the previous year.

It takes an awful lot of planning to visit everyone on your list!

‘13 Bedar’ - 13th day outing

On the final day of the Nowruz festivities, the 13th day, friends and family spend the day outdoors for barbeques and picnics, taking in the fresh Spring season as they settle into a new year, with new resolutions, new wishes, and renewed hope of joy and good health for all!

HAPPY NOWRUZ TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!
